February is here and we've found a number of activities to check out around Tacoma!
This month you can celebrate the Lunar New Year in the Lincoln District, hunt for one of a kind glass treasures, enjoy a Black History Month celebration and market, get outside for a guided nature walk, shop local for your sweetheart, tour a classic Tacoma mansion, dust off your running shoes, and check out latest twist on your average quiz night.

February 3rd
People’s Center is hosting a Black History event full of activities for all ages. The event kicks off at 11am with a scavenger hunt, arts and crafts, and a slew of community resource tables. Then through the afternoon hear from guest speaker Kwabi Amoah-Forson from the Peace bus and listen in on book readings by various BIPOC authors. There will be a DJ, Battle of the Bands and a free family swim as well!

February 17th
People's Community Center will also be hosting their Hilltop Healthy Kids and Family Carnival as a part of their month-long Black History Month celebration. Featuring live music and performances, family activities, and free resources, this event is a great for a family outing!

February 10th – Until they are gone!
Join fellow Tacoman’s as they search high and low for beautiful treasures created by the lovely Ms. Monkey. Every Lunar New Year, gorgeous glass orbs and medallions with an emblem of the new year's Chinese Zodiac animal are hidden (quite well) all over the city. These incredible glass creations are a several months long labor of love by Ms. Monkey and her team of glass makers. This year is EXTRA special in the Douville home as it is Catie’s year, the year of the dragon! While they are initially hidden in the wee hours of the Lunar New Year, they can be found for weeks and sometimes months to come. Keep an eye out, wherever you are!

Job Carr Cabin Museum has put together a lovely Lunar New Year craft. We know these rainy days can be a little tough, so why not take a quick trip to tour the indoor museum and grab a craft to enjoy at home!

This local makers market takes place the weekend before Valentine's Day, perfect timing for ta lovely last minute gift! Located between Stocklist and Tim's Kitchen, you'll find art, treats, trinkets, cards, and even some cute pottery all created by local artists. Support local and take home a sweet treat for your sweetheart!

Listen, we know it’s cold out, but runners LOVE to run! Enjoy this festive 5k and spread the love with some friends and family. The run features a nice, flat, out-and-back route along Ruston Way, starting and ending at beautiful Dune Peninsula park. Children ages six and up are welcome to participate as well as your canine friends!
February 11th
Come dine, dance, and delight your way through the Lincoln District as they host their annual Lunar New Year Celebration! Follow the Lions Dancers down 38th St., dine on some traditional (and not so traditional) cuisine at one of the food trucks, or snap some pics at the photo booth to remember how you ushered in good luck the for the 2024 Lunar New Year. The Lincoln District and all of it's businesses welcome you to celebrate the Year of the Dragon!
February 16th
Come wander the halls of 401 Broadway and hear all about the history of William and Alice Blackwell, the first two people to arrive in Tacoma by train. Learn how they constructed this home in 1890 and hosted an array of famous explorers and authors, like Mark Twain. This hour long tour takes you from the basement to the attic and goes over the rich history of how the Blackwell Mansion served Tacoma, including it's remodel and use as the YWCA in the 1970's.
Every Saturday!
Join a park guide in Point Defiance every Saturday and hear all about the history, plant life, and importance of this beautiful corner of the Pacific Northwest. This is a leisurely paced three mile walk, starting at the Rhododendron Garden. Come prepared with water, snacks, weather appropriate attire, and whatever questions you may have! The tour is free and no pre-registration is required.

This brand new event is a fun twist on your average trivia night! Join hosts Casey Catherwood and David Kerwin for what they call an "...arousing evening of challenges, game show style segments, & bizarre social experiments...like trivia night, but a whole lot better." One lucky team will walk away with some fabulous prizes and the first 100 guests will walk away with... an onion(?). Needless to say, we are intrigued. Check out these local dudes at Edison Square in South Tacoma, as they embark on this new adventure called, Show Hole!

Come enjoy the Black Night Market's third annual Black History Month Market! There will be food trucks, live performances, and a number of local BIPOC vendors and artists selling their treasures. Keep and eye on both the Black Night Market Facebook and Instagram pages as more information surrounding the vendors and performers will be provided as the event approaches.
