July in Tacoma 2024

July in Tacoma Douville Home Group Mount Rainier Logo

Tacoma's summer is (finally) coming in hot and we've found some great activities to check out this July! Enjoy a spectacular Independence Day, get a behind the scenes look at Washington's museums, gather the family for some local block parties, take a run through the zoo, celebrate Tacoma's great diversity and artist scene, jam out at Porchfest, enjoy some Shakespeare in Wright Park, and of course celebrate Pride, Tacoma style. We are so looking forward to being out in the sun with our neighbors and community this month.

See you around, Tacoma!

July 4th
Tacoma Summer Blast

One of Tacoma’s largest events is back and ready to “explode”. Tacoma Summer Blast is the ultimate Fourth of July celebration, with local vendors, live music, food trucks, entertainment, and of course, a breathe taking firework show. The celebration will take place at Dune Peninsula and Cummings Park with a 20-minute firework show that can be seen along Ruston Way stretching to Jack Hyde park in the south.

July 10th
Weird, Wonderful, and Worrisome Objects in Washington State's Museums

Museums are a great place to learn, discover, and enjoy history. But do we always see the whole story? There is a wide range of cultural, philosophical, political, environmental, historic, and even superstitious reasons why museums keep some objects from public view. In fact, you only see about 10% of what’s actually being stored. Come hear about the various objects that have been stored away in museums around Washington and even some from around the country.

July 12th
Proctor Blocks Family Fun Day

Pack a picnic basket and grab your kiddos trike for a day of family fun in Tacoma’s Proctor District! Proctor Blocks will be closing off select non-arterial streets to create a pedestrian-friendly space for music, interactive art, street games, a trike rodeo, and more. This family fun day is free and for all ages!

July 13th
Tacoma Pride Festival

While Pride Month may be concluding around the country, Tacoma likes to stretch it out just a little bit longer. Celebrate pride in July at Tacoma’s Pride Festival! This free all ages event takes place on Pacific Ave between 7th and 9th, with a main stage in Fireman’s park. There will be food vendors, a beer garden, makers market, as well as local AND national queer and BIPOC talent. Celebrate pride, Tacoma style!

July 14th
Eastside Community Center Summer Block Party

Gather the kiddos for an afternoon of fun at the Eastside Community Center! This event features a free BBQ picnic, lawn games, a bouncy house, arts & crafts, video gaming, and more. This free block party is open to all ages and created as a result of the communities input. See what your neighbors have in store at this fun filled family event!

July 20th
The Two Gentlemen of Verona in Tacoma's Wright Park

Grab your blankets and lawn chairs and enjoy a little Shakespeare in Tacoma's Wright Park. The Wooden O group of Seattle Shakespeare Company will be putting on a performance of The Two Gentlemen of Verona, a story of two best friends fighting over the same girl. The comedy of love will have you in stitches and possibly tears as hearts collide. So pack a picnic and enjoy this free family friendly performance!

July 20th
Owl Together Now Point Defiance Zoo

Celebrate Zookeeper Awareness month by taking a run through 5-Mile Drive that finishes up at Point Defiance Zoo! This stroller and family friendly run will provide scenic views and a chance to see red wolves, musk ox, and even some penguins in a different light. Half of the proceeds will go towards supporting the beloved Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. Stick around after the run for snacks and drinks, as the Zoo Plaza’s Café will be open with Lancer Catering. A shorter course will be available as well!

July 20th
Tacoma Porchfest

We are STOKED for this year’s Tacoma Porchfest! This magical walkable event takes over a special piece of Central Tacoma and hosts over 100 musicians performing a myriad of music. Neighbors in the 6th Ave neighborhood have offered up their porches as mini stages for rock n’ roll, jazz, funk, techno, and blues artists alike. Be sure to take a look at the map to see which porches will be hosting. Parking will be in the surrounding areas, as many of the roads will be closed for foot traffic. So walk or ride to our little slice of Tacoma and enjoy some rad tunes!

July 21st
Art on the Ave Tacoma

Celebrate local art, food, music, and entertainment right on Tacoma's 6th Ave. Over 175 artists and vendors will be set up from Alder to State Street with three mainstages along the way. Jam out to your favorite local artists, snag a pint at one of the seven beer gardens, enjoy some local treats in the food court, and let the kids play in the Kid zone featuring Vuelve la Luna Circus. There's something for everyone!

July 27th & 28th
Mosaic Tacoma's Art & Culture Festival

Tacoma is not just the city of destiny, but a city of diversity. Come celebrates the festivals 36th year with performance of traditional dance and music, as well as food, art, and wares from around the world. This free family event features over 100 vendors from local businesses, a kid's zone with entertainment for young festival goers, and two stages with live performances running both days.
