What to do in Tacoma this February 2025

February is here, and we’ve found some exciting activities happening around Tacoma this month! Welcome back the beloved Main Library as it reopens downtown. Celebrate the Lunar New Year with festivities in the historic Lincoln District. For Valentine's Day, enjoy trivia, cider flights, and some famous Tacoma confections, then run off those sweets at a love-inspired 5K. Visit Kings Books for the much-adored "Tacoma is for Lovers" craft fair. Learn more about the Civil Rights Act of 1866 and its impact on history, and don’t miss the annual Black History Market, where you can shop from local vendors.

February 1st

The Main Branch of the Tacoma Public Library is re-opening! Come join the celebration and check out the renovations. The Main Branch will be revealing their new Makers Lab, Children’s Area, Teen Space, Meeting Rooms, Events Spaces, and more! Enjoy live performances throughout the day while you explore the renovated Handforth Gallery, and meet with members of the Community Hub to learn about how they are creating hands-on learning on the second floor. There is so much to explore in this new space. Arrive early and you can be a part of the joyful procession into the building!

The Tacoma Tool Library is also excited to celebrate it's return to the library! Join them for a special event during the library opening, featuring a tool scavenger hunt and a camping/outdoor gear swap. If you make a donation to the tool library at the event, you'll receive a t-shirt or a saw blade as a thank-you! Additionally, the Tacoma Tool Library will begin hosting its Fix-It and Make It Sew nights in the new space, so be sure to follow them for the upcoming schedule.


 

 

February 2nd

Welcome in the Year of the Snake at the 33rd Annual Lincoln District Lunar New Year Festival! Enjoy delicious treats from local food trucks and Lincoln District restaurants while watching the Lion Dancers weave through the festivities, lighting firecrackers to usher in good luck for the new year. Support local businesses and grab a drink in the beer garden as you explore the Tacoma Sunday Market Marketplace. The event is expected to be crowded, so please consider carpooling if you can!


 


February 6th - 13th

Kick off the celebration by enjoying a cider flight pared perfectly with local Almond Roca confections. While you're sipping away on your sweet treats, for just $1, you can snag a bracelet making kit from the bartender and have a crafty date night! If you're feeling brainy, on February 6th you and your best gal pals can test your knowledge of rom-coms, heartbreak anthems, and love songs at their special Galentine's Trivia night. Then on February 13th, enjoy heart shaped pizza's from Just a Pizza My Mind, and put your love to the test at their Love You to PIZZAS Valentine's Trivia + Pizza event. New limited edition ciders will be released as well, so be sure to ask about the latest flavors!

The Tacoma Sunday Market is celebrating love with a special Valentine's event. Explore a fantastic selection of local vintage dealers and talented designers at this charming three-story market located in the historic Court House Square. Treat yourself to delicious street food and coffee, and don’t miss out on wonderful photo opportunities and lively music. It's going to be a lovely day!


 

February 8th & 9th

Visit Tacoma's cherished King's Books for a delightful two-day craft fair, "Tacoma is for Lovers." This event will showcase over 40 local vendors offering a variety of arts and crafts, including jewelry, letterpress prints, pottery, and much more! Each day features a different lineup of artists, so be sure to check the lists for both day one and day two—or better yet, attend both! This annual craft fair has become a tradition for many book and craft enthusiasts in Tacoma. Consider starting your own annual tradition this year!


 

 

February 15th

It's time for all you lovebirds to lace up your running shoes and get your hearts pumping! Enjoy a beautiful out-and-back run (or stroll) along Ruston Way, with stunning views of Dune Peninsula, Mt. Rainier, and the Puget Sound. In sickness AND in health, right!? So why not kick off your morning with a lovely run and wrap it up with a romantic evening. The race is totally dog- and stroller-friendly, so bring the whole crew along to join the fun!


 


February 20th

We The People and The American Dream is an engaging event featuring music and insightful conversations. In 1866, Congress passed two significant laws: the Civil Rights Act of 1866 and legislation allowing freed Black men to serve in the U.S. military. Join speakers Lee Warnecke from the Southern Poverty Law Center, former Mayor Bill Baarsma, Professor Derrick Estrada, and Professor Luther Adams – Free Man of Color – as they discuss how these pivotal events have shaped history along the American trail. This event is free with registration.

 

 


February 23rd

The Black Night Market is hosting their 4th annual Black History Month Market! Shop 30+ local vendors selling their handcrafted art, treats, and goods. Enjoy live performances by local musicians, poets, dancers, and more. Delicious food will be served by local food trucks all day. Keep an eye on the BNM page for updates on the full day’s schedule!
